Peer Advisor (Part Time PUSD)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide Comprehensive Academic Support: Offer personalized academic advising across a range of subjects, including but not limited to Algebra 1 & 2, Geometry, Biology, Chemistry, and English. Adapt guidance to meet each student’s unique learning style and academic needs.

  • Mentorship and Holistic Coaching: Mentor students in both academic areas and social-emotional development, providing support that encourages personal growth, confidence, and resilience.

  • Proactive Assistance: Engage proactively with students to assist with homework and class assignments, employing creative and varied teaching methods to enhance understanding and mastery of challenging subject areas.

  • Independent Goal-Setting and Reporting: When not directly working with students, take initiative to complete essential tasks such as creating reports, tracking data, setting goals, and strategizing on student engagement and program promotion.

  • Weekly Reporting: Submit detailed weekly reports to the Site Coordinator and/or Site Lead, summarizing student progress, challenges, and any key observations.

  • Student Attendance Tracking: Maintain accurate records of student participation by having students complete daily sign-in sheets, ensuring accountability and clear tracking of each student’s involvement.

  • Team Collaboration and Professional Development: Actively participate in team meetings with Site Coordinators, Site Leads, and other team members, as well as attend mandatory training sessions to enhance skills and stay aligned with program goals.

  • Responsive Communication: Respond promptly to all communications, including texts and emails, to support seamless program operations and maintain effective communication with team members.

  • Reliable Access and Transportation: Maintain reliable access to transportation, and internet, to ensure consistent availability and support for students and program activities.

  • Adherence to Ethical and Professional Standards: Uphold the highest standards of professionalism, including punctuality, reliability, and strict confidentiality concerning student and personnel information.

  • Compliance with Policies and Procedures: Comply fully with all policies and procedures set forth by NCRF and district guidelines, adapting to specific requirements at each site as needed.

  • Adaptability and Commitment: Be flexible and ready to take on additional responsibilities as assigned, always maintaining a positive, solutions-oriented attitude to fulfill the role’s dynamic needs.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Proficiency in Mathematics: Strong skills in key subject areas, including Geometry, Algebra I & II.

  • Bilingual Communication Skills: Fluency in both Spanish and English is highly preferred.

  • Effective Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Ability to connect and engage with students from diverse backgrounds.

  • Mentorship and Coaching Ability: Strong mentoring skills with a compassionate, patient approach.

  • Active Listening and Mediation: Capable of listening actively and facilitating productive discussions.

  • Team Collaboration: Works effectively with others and contributes positively to a team environment.

  • Academic Qualification: Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.

  • Student Engagement: Demonstrates patience and empathy, with the ability to connect meaningfully with students.

  • Passionate About Impact: Committed to supporting and uplifting underrepresented and underserved student populations.

  • Independent and Collaborative Work: Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team, exercising sound judgment, prioritizing tasks, and meeting deadlines in a dynamic environment.

  • Technical Proficiency: Skilled in computer applications, including MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Google Workspace.

  • Strong English Language Skills: Proficient in grammar, spelling, and punctuation.

  • Professional Communication: Demonstrates professional verbal and written communication skills.

  • Public Speaking: Comfortable presenting information to groups of varying sizes.

  • Continuous Learning: Open to ongoing professional development and learning opportunities.

  • Ethical Standards: Committed to maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information with integrity.

  • Adaptability and Reliability: Able to work effectively with staff and the public, and consistently meets attendance and availability requirements (minimum 16 hours per week).

  • Background Clearance: All NCRF employees/contractors must complete a criminal background check, including a fingerprint check by the State and/or FBI. For roles in San Diego County, an additional V.I.P. (Volunteers in Probation) background check may be required.


EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: Associate’s Degree or higher.

  • Experience: Preferably a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in a related field.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Physical Activity: Regularly required to sit, lift, carry, move around, listen, and communicate effectively.

  • Computer Use: May involve extended periods of work at a computer display terminal.

  • Lifting Requirements: Occasionally required to lift and/or move items weighing up to 25–50 pounds.

  • Paid Vacation Hours


PAY RANGE: $18.00–$20.00 per hour, commensurate with experience.
